D Class Inshore lifeboat - D742, Spirit of Leicester Naming Ceremony

Port St Mary lifeboat station welcomed Leicester RNLI fundraisers to the station on Saturday 2 April 20011 for the naming ceremony of their new D class lifeboat.

Derrick Young, Chair of the RNLI Leicester Fundraising Branch, handed over the D class inshore lifeboat on behalf of the fundraisers to Matt Crofts, Deputy Divisional Inspector for the West, who accepted the lifeboat on behalf of the RNLI. The lifeboat was then accepted on behalf of the station by Alex Maddrell, Port St Mary Lifeboat Operations Manager.

The inshore lifeboat was named the Spirit of Leicester by John D Sutton before she was launched to demonstrate her abilities to the fundraisers and supporters.

The following morning members of went to sea on the station Trent class lifeboat to see the new D class being put though her paces and enjoyed a trip round the Calf of Man.
