Port St Mary Lifeboat Station - ILB Callouts: 6th August 2002
Weather fine;visibility good; wind calm
01:30 BST. The yacht Antelope from Howth ran aground at the back of Port St Mary breakwater as the tide was ebbing. The ILB was launched and assisted the single handed yachtsman to lay out an anchor into deeper water. The ILB crew also entered the water around the yacht to place fenders and tyres beneath the hull of the yacht as the tide ebbed away. At 03:30 BST, an hour before low water the ILB returned to station as the yacht was completely high and dry.
The ILB crew stoodby at the station and at 07:15 BST launched again to aid the yacht off the rocks as it refloated.A crew member transferred to the yacht to assist the skipper recover the anchor and assist in mooring the yacht if required. It was then escorted into the inner harbour so that it could dry out later and be inspected for hull damage. Happily there was very little. The ILB was stood down at 08:00 BST.
