Port St Mary Lifeboat Station - Callouts: 12 July 2000

Weather- wind: SW 3; overcast with light drizzle; moderate visibility.

16:25 BST. Called out to the aid of local shellfish trawler "Spaven Mor", CT77. The vessel was engaged in queen scallop fishing some 12 miles south west of the Island when its suffered mechanical failure of its gearbox. This also resulted in total loss of hydraulic power to its winch and meant that the crew were unable to haul their trawl.

The lifeboat was on scene within 35 minutes and a tow line quickly establised. It was agreed that the trawler with its nets still dragging on the bottom would be towed to shallower waters where the trawl would slipped and left marked by a buoy. It took three hours to tow the "Spaven Mor" back to Port St Mary. After dropping of the trawl between the harbour and the Carrick rock the trawler was manouvered alongside the breakwater at 20:15.
