Port St Mary Lifeboat Services - 2001

This year the All Weather Lifeboat was been tasked 15 times and the crew crew assembled a further 4 times

The ILB was tasked 7 times ( 3 of which were with the ALB)

19	18 Dec	ALB	22:35 UTC The 100 foot long Irish beam trawler "Paramount" with 4 crew reports that they are taking in water fast 16 miles south east of Port St Mary. PSM Lifeboat and RAF Rescue helicopter 122 dispatched immediately with three salvage pumps between them. The scalloper trawler "Torbrach'n" 5 miles away from the Paramount also proceeded to assist. Weather NE force 5 - 6; swell moderate to rough;
	18 Dec	ALB + ILB	17:24 UTC. A Brymon airlines Dash 8 aircraft on a flight between Newcastle and Dublin with 31 people on board, diverted to Ronaldsway for an emergency landing, after smoke was discovered in the passenger cabin. Both the ALB and ILB crew were paged for immediate launch however the flight landed safely and all the passengers were disembarked in the normal fashion before the lifeboats got under way. Stood down at 17:35 UTC.
	16 Dec	ALB + ILB	14:03 UTC. Called to assist in the search for two divers reported overdue from a drift dive. Whilst the crew was being assembled the divers surfaced and were recovered by their dive support craft. The crew stoodby until it was clear that the two divers had had a normal dive and ascent. The lifeboat was stood down at 14:20 UTC
18	25 Nov	ALB	08:04 UTC. Alerted to assist two persons in an inflatable rubber dinghy in difficulties in Derbyhaven. They had been rowing out to their boat on a mooring when they lost or broke their paddle and ended up adrift with an offshore wind. PSM ALB was underway at 08:17 and was transiting across Castletown Bay when Castletown Coastguard informed the lifeboat that they had a man in a drysuit swimming the 60 meters or so to the dinghy with a line. The Lifeboat continued to proceed and reached Fort Island when Castletown Coastguard confirmed their man had reached the dinghy and that the two occupants had been safely brought ashore. Stood down at 08:32 and was back on Station twenty minutes later. Wind W force 4 to 5
17	20 Nov	ALB	18:26 UTC: Called to assist 79 foot long trawler, "Golden Harvest", S2, of Clogherhead, taking water in a position 5 miles SE of Chickens Rock.
16	28 Oct	ALB	17:45 BST "Ben Vane Beg", a 15 foot motor boat contacted Liverpool Coastguard to inform them that their boat had broken down with 3 adults and 2 children on board 1/2 mile east of Port St Mary, close to the Cronnags, Kentraugh. Quickly located using a searchlight and then towed back to Port St Mary breakwater .Weather fine ; wind light
15	13 Sept	ALB	10:10 BST. Belgium beam trawler "Freebird" reported on fire 17 miles SW of Port St Mary with a crew of 6. Weather rain; wind WNW gale 8 gusting severe gale force 9
	11 Sept	ALB + ILB	10:15 UTC. Manx Airlines 146 jet with 54 passengers on board reported problems with the aircrafts front nose wheel whilst on final approach to Ronaldsway . Both the ALB and ILB crew were paged for immediate launch however the flight safely landed before the boats got under way. Stood down at 10:20 UTC.
14	30 Aug	ILB	11:26 BST Liverpool Coastguard requested the launch of Port St Mary ILB to go to the aid of a lady who had fallen off the Breakwater.Weather fine ; wind WNW force 3
13	19 Aug	ILB	19:40 BST. Castletown Coastguard on a patrol reports seeing an unusual object in the water just to the east of Fort Island , Langness. The ILB is requested to investigate. ILB arrives 20 minutes later and locates a large, orange block shaped traffic separator. It is towed to the shore to remove it as a hazard to shipping. Weather cloudy; visibility good;
12	17 Aug	ILB	21:10 BST 22 foot long Bayliner Trophy sports fishing boat, "Cair Vie" suffering engine failure whilst angling close to the shore off the Marble Quarry, Poyllvaish. Weather cloudy; visibility good; Wind E1,
11	11 Aug	ALB + ILB	10:49 BST. Called to assist diveboat "Ballacary" suffering engine failure whilst 4 divers still underwater whilst drift diving in the Calf Sound between the Big Head of the Calf and South Harbour.Weather mist; Visability moderate / locally poor; wind SW force 4
10	23 July	ALB + ILB	12:40 BST. Called to assist in the search for 2 divers reported overdue from a drift dive off Gibdale Point, Calf of Man.PSM ILB, Port Erin Lifeboat, other surface vessels and RAF Seaking helicopter also assisted in the search. Divers successfully located some 2 miles from where they had originally dived.Weather fine ; wind SSW force 3
9	7 July	ALB	17:50 BST . Called to aid of the 36 foot charter angling boat, "Huntress" with engine failure 19.5 miles south east of Port St Mary. 7 Persons on board.Weather: overcast / patchy rain; Visability moderate / locally poor; wind NNW 4-5
8	3 July	ALB	05:05 BST . Called to aid of the yacht Blue Mantle, 1mile ESE of Fort Island, Langness. Weather: fog visability less than 1/4 mile, wind S force 1 -2 [photographs]
7	29 June	ALB	17:50 BST . Called to aid of the 24 foot, yacht Kudusanga which had lost its rudder 13 miles south west of Port St Mary. Weather: fine; Visability good; wind SSW 5-6
6	17 June	ILB	13:55 BST: Called to aid of man overboard from a rigid inflatable boat 300 yards south off PSM Breakwater. Weather good; Wind N force 2
5	16 June	ALB	18:49 BST . Called to aid of the 21 foot, yacht Thistle Dew, off Langness Point. Weather: fine; Visability Mod; wind NNE 4
4	6 June	ALB	14:20 BST: A light aircraft crashed into the sea approx. 1 mile east of Ronaldsway Airport. One occupant was killed. Port St Mary and Douglas Lifeboats and R122 from RAF Valley assisted in the search for and subsequent recovery of wreckage. Weather rain;Visability poor in rain; Wind SW 4-5.

2	26 May	ALB	03:00 BST . Called to aid of the yacht Ragtag, 3 miles south west of Port St Mary. Weather: light rain and fog visability less than 1/2 a mile , wind calm
1	5 May	ALB	21:00 BST . Called to aid of the single handed yacht Corazel, 13 miles south of Port St Mary. Weather fine , wind N 3
	23 February	ALB + ILB	06:25 UTC. The Isle of Man mail flight on route to Ronaldsway reported engine failure to one of its two turbo prop engines whilst 15 miles south of the Island. The flight had two crew and a load of 4 tonnes of post. Both the ALB and ILB crew were paged for immediate launch however the flight safely landed before the boats got under way. Stood down at 06:35 UTC. Weather overcast; wind N 2-3.
